Great to check up on your updates for the icons themselves. Lots of wood required!

Mark,

Yes, I'm excited about the larger size of the proposed icons too. Working at this scale is especially meaningful to me as it allows a real presence to develop in the icon. As to their weight, the icon's panel's will be made from basswood, which is a lighter hardwood, so they won't be too heavy. Of course, once the gesso, gold and mineral pigment are added to them they will have a fair heft! I'll be explaining more about that in my next post ...

Chris:

I am still chewing over your idea of the 7 instead of 6. Agreed that it would be better for the overall appearance. Also, I am actually excited by larger--rather than smaller--icons. (They will be heavy panels, won't they?) The larger icons will have a greater presence among us, and I think that is important for true veneration. I think the size actually has a bearing on our worship.

Hello,
I live and work in El Salvador, Central America. I have been working with indigo on an every day basis since 2001. We focus mainly on textiles, we use our indigo, not woad. We use both kinds Indigofera Suffruticosa and Indigofera Guatemalensis. We have sometimes worked with gold leaf as a decorative element on some items such as wall hangings. We have retaken the use of indigo as a result of the help of the Japanese and the German governments to the country. And although we have learned to master some issues of the dying process in textiles we still are a long way to go with it regarding organic ways of using it. We are very intrigued by your research and findings and would like to hear a bit more about them if possible. We appreciate your sharing your discoveries too!

Hi, Nice to meet you.
My name is WangSungRoak,Wang is fist name and SungRoak is last name, and
I'm a high school student in Korea

I can't write English well.. please consider that :)
I want to make Maya Blue.

I have Palygorskite and Indigo powder.
But.. I don't know how long heat the mixture(palygorskite and indigo powder).
Moreover I have a little palygorskite..,

Palygorskite in your picture is gray.. but mine is white..
So if I mix the palygorskite and woad powder, the mixture's colur is skyblue.(not dark)

Besides I made mixture and baked that, but I have no way to confirm that my mixture is Maya Blue.

I uploaded my palygorskite, woad powder and ETC's picture in My Blog

Please help me..
